The Atlanta Braves are a professional baseball team based in Atlanta, Georgia. The Braves are members of the National League East division, and play their home games at Turner Field. The team began playing in 1871 as the Boston Red Sox, one of the American League’s eight original charter franchises. The franchise joined the NL in 1876 as the Boston Red Stockings before officially changing its name to the Boston Braves in 1912. After relocating to Milwaukee in 1953, the team was known as the Milwaukee Braves until finally settling on Atlanta for good in 1966.
