The Gonzaga Bulldogs men’s basketball team represents Gonzaga University in the West Coast Conference. The school competes in the NCAA Division I as a member of the West Coast Conference. The Bulldogs play their home games at the McCarthey Athletic Center on the university campus in Spokane, Washington.

2017–18 Gonzaga Bulldogs men’s basketball team

The 2017–18 Gonzaga Bulldogs men’s basketball team represented Gonzaga University in the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men’s basketball season. The team played its home games at the McCarthey Athletic Center in Spokane, Washington, and were coached by Mark Few. They finished the season 32–5, 16–2 in West Coast Conference play to finish in a tie for the regular season conference championship with Saint Mary’s. They defeated San Diego and BYU to win the WCC Tournament Championship. As a result, they received the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament where they defeated UNC Greensboro, Ohio State, Houston, and Texas Tech to advance to the Final Four for the first time in school history. There they lost to Michigan in the National Semifinal.

2018 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament

The 2018 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament will be the 68th edition of the single-elimination tournament to determine the NCAA Division I men’s basketball national champion. Sixty-eight teams will enter the tournament with thirty-two teams receiving automatic bids by winning their respective conference tournaments and thirty-six receiving at large bids. The first four games of the tournament will be played on March 13 and 14, 2018, and will culminate with the championship game on April 2 in San Antonio, Texas.

Baseball

In June, LeBron James led the Cleveland Cavaliers to their fourth consecutive NBA Finals appearance, becoming only the third team ever to do so. They were again matched up against his former team, the Golden State Warriors, who they had faced in three of those Finals appearances (2015, 2016 and 2017); this was their fourth consecutive Finals meeting overall. The Warriors won this rubber match in a four-game sweep to win their third championship in four years and cement themselves as one of basketball’s all-time greatest teams.

Ice hockey

The Washington Capitals won their first Stanley Cup by defeating the Vegas Golden Knights four games to one; it was also Washington’s first championship since they joined the NHL as an expansion team in 1974. Alexander Ovechkin was awarded both Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP and Hart Memorial Trophy as regular season MVP; he became only the eighth player to win both awards in his career and only the second player (after Mario Lemieux) to win all three awards – an Olympic gold medal, a World Championship gold medal, a Stanley Cup and both MVP trophies – during his career.
