The Game Tailgating

49ers game time is generally set depending on the team they are playing. For most home games, the game will start at 10 a.m. However, there are some games that might be set for an evening or afternoon kickoff depending on the television schedule.

The Game Television Schedule

The regular season game schedule for the San Francisco 49ers was released on Wednesday, and it featured some interesting twists. The team will open the season on Sunday Night Football against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which is a bit unusual. That game will be followed by a Monday night matchup with the Seattle Seahawks, which is also unusual.

The 49ers will then have their bye week in Week 3, which is fairly typical. But they’ll follow that up with a Thursday night game against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4. That’s a short week, of course, but it’s still interesting to see the schedule makers put that game so early in the season.

49ers Game Television Schedule:
Week 1: Sunday, September 8th at 8:20 PM ET on NBC (San Francisco 49ers vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
Week 2: Monday, September 16th at 8:15 PM ET on ESPN (San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks)
Week 3: Bye Week
Week 4: Thursday, September 26th at 8:20 PM ET on FOX/NFLN (San Francisco 49ers vs. Los Angeles Rams)

The Game History

The San Francisco 49ers are a professional American football team located in the San Francisco Bay Area. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) West division. The team was founded in 1946 as a charter member of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) and joined the NFL in 1949 when the leagues merged. The 49ers were the first major league professional sports franchise based in San Francisco. The name “49ers” comes from the prospectors who arrived in Northern California in the 1849 Gold Rush. The team is legally and corporately registered as San Francisco Forty Niners, Ltd., and wearing red and gold colors, they are one of the few teams in NFL history to have retained their original team colors for their home jersey, which has remained gold since 1955; currently, white jerseys are worn at home games.[1][2][3]

The team has won five Super Bowl championships, with Jimmy Johnson and Mike Ditka becoming the only head coach/general manager tandem to win multiple championships. Throughout much of its history, the 49ers had many players considered among the best in NFL history,[4][5] including five Hall of Famers: quarterback Steve Young, running back Roger Craig, tackle Jerome Owens, linebacker Charles Haley, and guard Randy Cross. Wide receiver Jerry Rice is often hailed as that era’s best wide receiver,[6][7] and is considered one of the greatest players ever.[8]

The team has been in both Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (being their home stadium from 1946 to 1971) and Candlestick Park (their home stadium from 1971 to 2013); they will move to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara for the 2014 season onwards.
